There and back again.

The horizon is my home.

Detroit road trip!

Had a wee road trip with the roomies today to Detroit- it’s Pride fest currently, and they were eager to go. I offered to drive, because I need more time behind the wheel to regain my driving confidence (altho driving thru downtown is THE most nerve-wracking thing to do, I think…).

We had a jolly good time. Since both Jon and Emily are veg, and I’m vegan (Patrick was the loan omni), AND I was the driver, I was able to convince our convoy to hit up the Detroit SEVA restaurant.

This time, I elected to eat a tempeh burger (with avacado and sriracha added for extra zest), and a side of yam fries (no contest, there):

(hey, veganarchopunk.tumblr.com- that photo is for your benefit! ;) )

Then we hit up the Pride festival (I support love of all sorts, folks, even tho I’m of a more (so-called) straight-like persuasion myself)- it was a really great time. The weather was pleasant, and there were all manner of lovely sorts of folks wandering about.  Lots of adorable couples, of all kinds, and there was just generally a happy little atmosphere of love and acceptance. I had a great time wandering about with my friends…

Plus, I’m not ashamed to admit I’m SUPER proud of myself for driving around Detroit (again- first time was last week for Gogol Bordello)).  I’ve often said that cities are not meant for auto traffic, and I do mean that. That’s what feet and public transport are for, folks!!! But I did a good job. AND, I took Idris (my car, in case you’ve forgotten) on the highway for the first time and she did a lovely job.

Twas a good day!

Current.

I’ve a new car! Her name is Idris (after the female human form of the TARDIS, of course)…

She’s just lovely, and I’m quite enamored with her.  I’m stoked to begin getting comfortable to drive again (still having a crapton of anxiety while driving, and a few nightmares…). I also squared away my ticket today- and apparently if I take a wee online course, I can get the points removed from my license! ^^ I can confidently say- to the future! ^^

Also, I stopped by Walmart on my break from work today because I needed some air fresheners for Idris (she smells like industrial-strength cleaner…)- stopped to browse the t-shirts (because I’ve a weakness for boys’ tshirts). Found this little gem:

Best of all, there was no pricetag on it, so the nice old fellow working the register offered to price it himself- three dollars! Did I just haggle at WalMart? O.o

Had a blooding DELICIOUS meal with my dearest Papa V this evening-inaugural ride for Idris, of course. We went to Seva and I had a killer tofurkey sandwich and yam fries (with spicy BBQ dipping sauce)!

This posting is relevant to my interests.

For no apparent reason, here is a bulleted list of things that I have a strange obsession with:

  • Nikolai Tesla
  • Octopuses (and squids)
  • Pandas
  • Comic book villains
  • Noodles
  • Classic literature
  • Clothing for animals
  • Cows
  • Rainbows
  • Dinosaurs
  • Unicorns
  • Boys’ tshirts

So, there it is.

“I love you. I know you think it’s him. I know you think it ought to be him. But it’s not. It’s you. And when I see you again I’m gonna tell you properly. Just to see your stupid face. My life was so boring before you just dropped out of the sky. Just get your stupid face where I could see it, okay? Okay…”

This is me and my friend Leah.  I work as her aide (Leah has Rett syndrome: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rett_syndrome).
Today, Leah and I went to see the Avengers.  She’s usually not so good with full-length flicks, but we made it through! ^^ Huzzah! If I had to guess, I’d say Captain America was her favourite Avenger… ;)
